2. The Mother Earth News Fair  Puyallup Fairgrounds  Puyallup, Wash. | June 2-3, 2012  Saturday Fair hours: 9:00 AM-7:00 PM  Sunday Fair hours: 9:00 AM-6:00 PM   We need to line up volunteers to man our booth. I will supply the canopy since we will be outside this year. Volunteers get in free. It’s a wonderful event with lots of great info and speakers. So call me or email me soon, when you can help out tyvm!

Among the topics of discussion will be:
Jason Fumasi and his neighbor (sorry, I didn’t get his name) will be talking about things they  have done at the Graham Community Garden and things they’d like to do in the future.  Jason is a graduate horticulturalist, a Master Gardener, and as Wayne Cooke describes, an “all around  good guy.”

We will also have an open discussion asking ‘how does your garden grow”.  Let’s find out who’s  growing what, what will be available for sale, and our group members can ask and/or answer  any questions from peers.

 On a sad note, our group is losing a long-time member.  Deej and his wife Yumi are moving out of the Graham area and this will be their last regular meeting. Deej has 4 rain barrels he would   like to find new homes for!  Please come and join us to offer Deej and Yumi our best wishes on their move.

 If there is any time left over we can discuss plans for things our group would like to do this Spring  and Summer! Perhaps arrange garden tours ect. 

Karelina says we will be having a raffle this month!!  Bring items for the raffle!!

Last season Vera picked the rhubarb from Bruce L.’s farm and sold it at the farmers market…this season she cannot do that so Carol Wright is asking for suggestions or help to get involved in selling and/or picking ‘cuz the rhubarb is ready.

The $ last season went to the Feed The Children program here in our community, over the summer. let me know.

The April meeting of Self-Reliant Community of Graham went well!!  Leslie Carey gave us a very nice presentation on C.E.R.T.,  which stands for Citizens Emergency Response Training.   She sent me a copy of the powerpoint presentation with some notes to go with it for anyone who would like a copy.  If you want a copy, reply to this email and tell me!!

Eatonville is having their Spring Into Health Fair on April 28th from 11am-3pm.   Our group will share a booth at the fair with the Eatonville Self-Reliant group.  Anyone who would like to volunteer to help set up and/or staff our booth let me know!

Speaker ideas or meeting topics for upcoming meetings are welcome!!

Greetings!

It’s time to start making plans for next months meeting, and while we’re at it, things our group would like to do this summer.    We also need to discuss leadership and direction.    We’ve mostly been coasting along the past few months, and I’ve been reminded lately that our group can and should do more than that.     First off, for those who don’t know, Deej and Yumi have bought a house in Tacoma and will be focusing on doing things in their new community.   We’ll miss their involvement in our group here in Graham.   That leaves a void in our group, which means others have an opportunity to step in and be more involved!

I know we’ve had a small group who’ve been included in these types of emails in the past, I think all of whom attended our “leadership” meeting many months ago, but to be honest, I’m not sure who all I should be including in this email.   We have many people in our group and I am so bad with names that I can easily miss someone who should be involved in these discussions.  So I’m throwing it out…   who all should be included?   Among some of the regulars I recall from past emails, I included Shannon K. in this email.  Shannon and her daughter have become regulars at our meetings and Shannon expressed interest in getting more involved in our group at the last meeting.    Should we schedule another meeting to spend more time discussing leadership and direction for the future of our group?

Does anyone have any meeting ideas for May?    My wife was at the April meeting of the Eatonville Self-Reliant group and said the herbalist they had speaking put on a wonderful presentation.  My wife has spoken with the herbalist and she may be willing to speak at our group.  She may be available in June.   I’ve also talked with Clay Thornburg, who has a local farm and winery.  He says our group has been out to his place in the past and he’d welcome having us out again.   I’ve not been to his place, but from what I’ve heard, he has quite a setup.

Let’s see what kind of activities we can come up with for your group for the summer!!
