Some Basic Skills

Irene B. brought up a good point, “You know, one aspect of self-reliance that I never see mentioned is plain old ‘fixing stuff’ — mending, darning, repairing leaky hoses, re-wiring a lamp… It used to be that people didn’t have tons of stuff, so they kept what they had in good repair. Now, unfortunately, lots of things are designed to break if you take them apart and try to fix them, but there are still some basic skills that are really handy to have.”
