Urgent message from E’ireen at Self Reliant Community of Midland.
CHICKEN KEEPING IS IN JEOPARDY.
(Some of) The Pierce County Council wishes to ban all poultry keeping on any property less than two acres in unincorporated Pierce County.
THAT WILL AFFECT MANY OF YOU.
A hearing will be held on March 22, next Tuesday at 8:30am on this matter.
It will be in the public hearing room of the Pierce County Annex, 2401 So. 36th.
It is very important to be at this hearing where you can express your opinion.
This is an important issue for those who live on less than one acre in unincorporated Pierce County, who do, or who want to own chickens and/or other small livestock. Those interested in supporting legislative changes to allow small property owners the legal ability to raise chickens or other small livestock, should certainly attend this meeting or at the very least, send correspondence to the Planning Commission. I will provide the contact information below.
Two days ago, on Thursday, E’ireen and I received an email from Councilmember Farrel’s assistant, which read:
I was just informed this morning that the Planning Commission will hear the proposed changes to regulations of poultry at their normal hearing next week. That hearing will be on [March] 22, at 8:30 AM, at the Pierce County Annex, Public Meeting Room, 2401 So. 35th Street, Tacoma, WA. Written public comment is accepted if you are unable to attend the hearing.
For a copy of the proposed regulation changes please contact the clerk of the Planning Commission, Toni Fairbanks at tfairba@co.pierce.wa.us. Written comments can be submitted to her for transmittal to the Planning Commission.
I apologize for the late notice. If I can be of further assistance please let me know.
Thanks, Whitney Rhodes Legislative Assistant Tim Farrell, District 4 Pierce County Council 253.798.7590
